Educating, Empowering and Connecting the Next Generation of Global Leaders
Global Initiative
United World Leaders Society (UWL) has approved the establishment of the Global Council on Youth & Human Rights and is now developing and rolling out the initiative internationally.
The Council is designed to educate, empower and engage young people around the world in the principles of human rights, human dignity, responsible leadership, international cooperation and positive social impact, while creating opportunities for them to learn from and engage with distinguished leaders and institutions from across the world.
At its core, the Council seeks to connect two critically important objectives: advancing understanding of human rights and preparing a new generation of responsible global leaders.
Young people who understand the importance of human dignity, fundamental rights, responsible leadership and constructive international engagement are better positioned to become leaders capable of strengthening their communities, institutions and societies.
Through the global UWL platform, the Council will seek to transform education into engagement, engagement into leadership, and leadership into meaningful Impact & Legacy.
Purpose and Vision
The Council’s mission is to help young people understand human rights not simply as an academic subject, but as principles that affect individuals, communities, institutions and societies throughout the world.
The Council will seek to create educational and leadership opportunities through which young people can learn about human rights, engage with experienced leaders, exchange perspectives with peers from different countries and cultures, and develop initiatives capable of creating meaningful positive impact.
An important component of this vision is access to leadership.
Where appropriate, the UWL ecosystem may create opportunities for young participants to learn from and engage with distinguished current and former presidents, prime ministers, ministers, ambassadors, senior government officials, human-rights leaders, academics, philanthropists, business leaders, nonprofit leaders and other accomplished individuals from around the world.
Such engagement can provide young people with perspectives and experiences that cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom while helping established leaders share their knowledge and legacy with future generations.
Any participation, engagement or introductions involving particular leaders remain subject to availability, applicable UWL policies and UWL discretion and are not guaranteed.
Human Rights Education
The Council may develop educational programs, discussions, roundtables, seminars, digital programming, research initiatives and other activities helping young people explore subjects including:
- fundamental human rights and human dignity;
- the history and development of international human-rights principles;
- rule of law and responsible institutions;
- rights and responsibilities within societies;
- freedom, equality and human dignity;
- protection of children and vulnerable populations;
- education and economic opportunity;
- technology, artificial intelligence and emerging human-rights questions;
- trafficking, exploitation and modern slavery;
- discrimination and social inclusion;
- humanitarian challenges;
- peace, dialogue and international cooperation; and
- other significant contemporary human-rights issues.
Programs should encourage thoughtful, constructive and informed dialogue consistent with UWL’s independent and nonpartisan institutional mission.
Access to Global Leadership
One of the Council’s distinctive opportunities is its ability to connect youth education with the broader UWL global leadership ecosystem.
Where appropriate, young participants may have opportunities to attend or participate in UWL leadership discussions, educational programs, member events, Impact & Legacy Forums, roundtables and other approved activities.
The Council may also invite distinguished international leaders to participate in youth dialogues, interviews, mentorship programs, educational sessions and other engagements.
This may include current and former heads of state and government, ministers, ambassadors and other government officials, as well as leaders from international organizations, academia, business, philanthropy, science, technology, civil society and the nonprofit sector.
The purpose is not simply to give young people exposure to accomplished individuals, but to enable them to learn how consequential leaders think, make decisions, address difficult challenges and create impact.
Developing Future Leaders
Education alone is not the ultimate objective.
The Council is intended to create pathways through which qualified and committed young people can move from learning to participation and from participation to leadership.
Young participants may have opportunities, subject to applicable UWL processes and approvals, to assume responsibilities within Council programs, establish projects, participate in working groups, organize educational activities, conduct research, contribute to discussions and help engage other young people internationally.
Where appropriate, participants may also become involved with Young United World Leaders and other UWL Councils and Initiatives whose missions align with their interests and capabilities.
The objective is to provide young people with real opportunities to develop leadership experience while contributing to meaningful initiatives.
Global Stakeholder Coalition
The Council will seek to build a distinguished international coalition capable of supporting its educational, leadership and Impact & Legacy objectives.
Potential participants and collaborators may include:

For those who take an active role in building it, the Council provides an opportunity not merely to hold a leadership position, but to help create an enduring international platform capable of educating, empowering and developing future generations.
Impact & Legacy
